Brodifacoum RB (0.005%) is a second-generation, long-acting anticoagulant rodenticide. Its chemical name is 3-[3-(4-bromobiphenyl-4)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalen-1-yl]-4-hydroxycoumarin, and its molecular formula is C₃₁H₂₃BrO₃. It appears as a grayish-white to light yellow-brown powder with a melting point of 22-235°C. It is insoluble in water but readily soluble in solvents such as acetone and chloroform.
Toxicological Properties
This agent acts by inhibiting prothrombin synthesis. Its acute oral LD₅₀ value (rat) is 0.26 mg/kg. It is highly toxic to fish and birds. Symptoms of poisoning include internal bleeding, hematemesis, and subcutaneous ecchymoses. Vitamin K₁ is the effective antidote.
Instructions
Used as a 0.005% poison bait for controlling domestic and farmland rodents. Place bait spots every 5 meters, placing 20-30 grams of bait at each spot. Effectiveness is seen in 4-8 days.
Precautions
After application, set up warning signs to keep children and pets out of reach. Any remaining poison should be incinerated or buried. In case of poisoning, administer vitamin K1 immediately and seek medical attention.
